Recall Check

Checks a product, food, medical device or vehicle against the official US recall databases (CPSC, NHTSA, FDA) and returns the matching recalls with links. It says "no recall found", never "safe".

what you give it

A product name, brand and model, UPC, or a vehicle (year, make, model, or VIN). One item or a list of up to 25.

what you get back

Per item: recalled / no recall found / possible match, with the recall number, date, hazard, remedy and the official link.

cost

One run: 3 credits for up to 25 items • about $0.17. Free if nothing could be checked.

Run it

Free test checks up to 3 items. Sign in for up to 25.

How it works

  1. Sorts each item: vehicle, food, medical device, or consumer product.
  2. Asks the official source: NHTSA for vehicles (a VIN is decoded first), CPSC for consumer products, openFDA for food and devices.
  3. Counts a recall only when the brand and the model or product words appear in the recall's own text.
  4. Returns each recall's number, date, hazard, remedy and official link, newest first.
  5. Puts flagged items first and lists what it could not check.

Rules it follows

  • Says "no recall found" — never that an item is fine.
  • Never matches on brand alone; a brand-only item gets a question for the model number.
  • If a database doesn't answer, the item is marked "could not check", never "no recall found".
  • Reads public government records only. VINs aren't kept after the run.
  • If nothing could be checked, the run is free.
